Team List Tuesday – Latrell Is Back!

The Rabbitohs team has been named but in breaking news Latrell Mitchell has been ruled out.

The Womens World Cup begins in Sydney at Accor Stadium on Thursday. To make way for this global event, the Rabbitohs face an epic 5 game road trip that begins on the Sunshine Coast this Friday 21st July against the Broncos.

In round 9 at Suncorp Stadium a Campbell Graham hat trick was the highlight of Souths 32-6 demolition of Brisbane. That loss was however just 1 of 5 defeats the Broncos have suffered all season. I expect this round 21 clash to be a closer contest.

Friday night footy Rabbitohs vs Broncos kicks off at 8pm at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

The much needed 2nd bye in round 20 allowed extra time for injuries to heal. Returning stars and players to watch in the run to the 2023 finals are…

Latrell Mitchell

The Taree Ferrari will need another week in the garage before his return.

Jai Arrow

Gentleman Jai is back after a syndesmosis injury that saw him miss games for the Maroons and Rabbitohs. This forward pack is better when Arrow is on the field.

Campbell Graham

‘Stretch’ has just put pen to paper for an extra 3 years at Souths so he will no doubt be keen to get back on the paddock to repay the faith shown in him. The right side will benefit from the inclusion of Campbell Graham.

Cody Walker

Many believe that you can’t be considered a truly great NRL player until you’ve dominated at Origin level. Cody Walker has now ticked that box and will lead the Rabbitohs run home full of confidence. Souths outside backs can expect quality passes early and often courtesy of Cody.

Alex Johnston

AJ3 is on the verge of try scoring greatness. He currently sits equal 3rd with 180 on the all time list with Steve Menzies. One more try and his total of 181 will put him on the podium on his own. 10 more tries after that will see him overtake Billy Slater in 2nd place. Putting all that aside, Souths fans will undoubtedly just be happy to see Alex flying down the ‘lethal left’ side, terrorising the opposition.

Keaon Koloamatangi

Another who has now ticked the Origin star box, Keaon will come back into this team with a winning mentality. Fans can look forward to seeing the workhorse Mascot junior exploding onto the ball or pulling off his ‘hand of Keaon’ passes.

Hame Sele

Hame was a late withdrawal against the Bulldogs and was then ultimately missed in the loss. He’s back this week and if he can stay healthy the wins will pile up.

Cameron Murray

Cameron Murray is a brilliant ball player, has an excellent running game, is an elite defender and is an inspirational leader. Freddy finally came to his senses and started Cam at lock in Origin 3…and the Blues hammered the Maroons. Coach JD knows how important our club captain is to the Rabbitohs chances of going all the way in this competition.

Last But Not Least

The players listed above will rely heavily on the rest of the team to perform well. Thomas Burgess, Damien Cook, Davvy Moale, Junior Tatola, Jacob Host, Tallis Duncan and Shaq Mitchell are just a few of the men up front that will play meaningful minutes.

Lachy Ilias, Isaiah Tass, Taane Milne, Tyrone Munro and Blake Taaffe are also set to play key roles on the road to 22. Benjamin Lovett, Jed Cartwright, Liam Knight and Pete Mamouzelos are also well and truly in the mix. The club has quality depth in the ranks and that gives the coaching staff plenty of options if needed.

Rabbitohs Announcement

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce their squad for round 21 of the 2023 NRL Premiership against the Brisbane Broncos to be played this Friday 21 July at 8pm at the SOLD OUT Sunshine Coast Stadium.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Jason Demetriou has made ten changes to the 17 that played against the Bulldogs in round 19 including naming Latrell Mitchell at fullback, Campbell Graham in the centres, Taane Milne on the wing, Cody Walker at five-eighth, Damien Cook at hooker, Hame Sele at prop, Keaon Koloamatangi and Jai Arrow in the second row, Cameron Murray at lock and Jacob Host on the bench.

Gates at Sunshine Coast Stadium open at 6pm with the NRL fixture scheduled to kick off at 8pm.
