Return To Redfern Pathways Super Saturday

By Steve Mavin for Bunnies TV.

The Bunnies are soon back to Redfern, south of Sydney…take me home Botany Road!

The Rabbitohs NRL team have the bye in round 13 but our Jersey Flegg Cup and NSW Cup sides will return to Redfern Oval this Saturday 1st June.

Jersey Flegg v West Tigers kicks off at 1pm followed by NSW Cup v Western Suburbs Magpies at 3pm. Additionally, the NSW Cup game will be live streamed on NSWRLTV.

This is the first leg of the Sattler-Kelly Cup for season 2024, a trophy named after South Sydney legend, John Sattler and Western Suburbs legend, Noel Kelly. The Sattler-Kelly Cup is played over the two regular season games between South Sydney and Western Suburbs in any given NSW Cup season. The Rabbitohs are the current holders of the Sattler-Kelly Cup having defeated Western Suburbs in both games in 2023 on their way to the NSW Cup premiership and State Championship title.

With the Rabbitohs’ NRL squad enjoying the bye in round 13, the Rabbitohs are encouraging all Members and fans to make their way to Redfern Oval on Saturday to cheer on the pathways teams. Entry is free.

NRL

On Saturday night the Rabbitohs won their 2nd game this year, defeating the Parramatta Eels 42-26 at Accor Stadium.

AJ 190 & Billy 190.

After 4 first half tries back to back I occasionally began to wonder where this version of the South Sydney team has been all year. Try number 4 in the 27th minute saw Alex Johnston score his 190th career try. This therefore elevated him to equal 2nd on the all time scorers list with Billy Slater.

1 win and 1 loss at Accor Stadium on Saturday night.

Jersey Flegg Cup

Rob Bush made a particularly excellent calling debut on Saturday live and free on Bunnies TV. The result however did not go to script.

An excellent calling debut from Rob Bush.

Rabbitohs captain Louis Grossemy scored the first try of the game but it was all the Eels after that. The visitors were then far too good, winning 28-8.

Round 12 Rabbitohs v Eels Jersey Flegg Cup action was live on Bunnies TV featuring Rob Bush.

This Saturday 1st of June the 4th placed Rabbitohs take on a West Tigers team that sit 3rd on the ladder. The Wests Tigers have won 7 games to the Bunnies 6 and have a better differential so this is a solid test for Souths.

NSW Cup

Lenny Skelton scored the first try against the Eels on Saturday at Accor Stadium but the Eels went on to win 32-24. The oldest man on the field, Buddy Gordon proved that age is only a number when he handled the ball twice before scoring a 2nd half try.

Lenny Skelton opened the scoring on Saturday evening.

The 10th placed Rabbitohs take on the last placed Magpies at Redfern Oval Saturdays 1st June at 3pm following the Jersey Flegg clash. The Bunnies title defence is undoubtedly on shaky ground in 2024 with just 3 wins and 7 losses on the board. The Magpies are also not going too well, they’ve won 2 and lost 9.

The 8th wonder of South Sydney..Buddy Gordon scores a try in NSW Cup.

Richie Kennar returns from injury on the wing.
