Rabbitohs 17 Man Squad Update
The heat was certainly on at Redfern this morning as the Rabbitohs made their final preparations to take on the Roosters on Friday night. The Souths 17 man squad update is Jed Cartwright trained with the first grade team and could be a late switch for Blake Taaffe.
In 2 games off the bench this year ‘Taaffey’ has only played a total of 13 minutes. We suspect coach Jason Demetriou will send him back to play a full game with the NSW Cup. That game will be against the Roosters on Sunday at Wentworth Park. It will be an historic clash because neither team has played at that ground for over a century.
Adding further weight to the Cartwright switch is the fact that all 3 bench forwards named play in the middle. The inclusion of ‘Carty’ gives JD an edge back row option.
Trell Mit
Our cameras rolled live and free from 9.20am and we immediately noticed that Jed was wearing the multi coloured shirt that signifies the top 17. Blake was wearing that coloured shirt too meaning he could be 18th man. Souths superstar Latrell Mitchell showed no signs of injury and trained with no strapping on his knee.
Legends At Redfern
The former Rabbitohs I managed to spot at training were John Peek, George Piggins, Shannon Donato, Mark Ellison, Mark Lyons and Darren Brown. There were plenty of Lahoods there too with Dr Jim, Peter, Paul & Anthony all present to watch the session.
I took plenty of pictures and managed to shoot a few quick chats with Cameron Murray, Cody Walker and Lachlan Ilias.
Coach JD
After the session Rabbitohs head coach Jason Demetriou answered questions from the assembled media that included our Bunnies TV crew. When asked about rivalry week JD said “The whole week is good fun”.
A large group of students from Sydney Uni were in the grandstand with their lecturer who was wearing his Souths jersey. Shannon Donato, Brock Schaefer and Mark Ellison all had a chat to the assembled youngsters.
Brontee & The Cup
As we were packing up we ran into Brontee Fulton from the Rabbitohs. Brontee was carrying some precious cargo, the Ron Coote Cup so we just had to take a few pictures and shoot another video for Bunnies TV.
