Wahs Week – Team List Tuesday

By Steve Mavin for Bunnies TV.

First Grade (16th – 1 Win – 3 Losses)

A much needed first win for the Rabbitohs finally came on Good Friday with a 20-16 defeat of Bulldogs at Accor Stadium. This performance was a huge improvement on what the team had delivered in rounds 1 to 3. Star recruit Jack Wighton was one of our best and his 2 tries were the winning difference.

A double to Jack Wighton was the winning difference.

This weekend on Super Saturday, the New Zealand Warriors also known as the ‘Wahs’ await. The Kiwi side will be full of confidence after back to back wins against the Raiders and Knights. The Wahs also only suffered narrow losses to Storm and Sharks in rounds 1 and 2. This is a tough game that the Bunnies will be desperate to win. The match will be live on Foxtel and Kayo.

NSW Cup (6th – 1 Win – 2 Losses – 1 Bye)

A splendid comeback by our Cup side looked to be good enough to steal victory until a late try by the Bulldogs snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. It was a devastating loss after Souths had played some great footy to fight their way to a 2nd half lead. Fullback Jye Gray scored another try. His form has been outstanding and while he’s been playing fullback I believe his best position is in the halves.

On Saturday at 12:40pm the Rabbits again play the curtain raiser to the main game. They take on the 10th placed Warriors that have won 2 and lost 2 so far in the 2024 competition. The game will be live on Foxtel.

Jersey Flegg (10th – 2 Wins – 2 Losses)

A 2 game winning streak to start the season pumped up the hope that our under 21s Flegg boys might be in for a big year. 2 heavy defeats to the Roosters and Dogs has given the team a reality check and sent them back to the drawing board.

Coach Tippy and the team.

The talent is there in the team but they need to get the simple things right. Good ball control, strict discipline, compete sets, commitment in defence and improved form should come.

On Saturday morning at 10:00am the winless last placed Warriors travel across the ditch and will no doubt be going all out to get their season kick started. Redfern Oval is being closed for a few weeks so Erskineville Oval will be the venue for this game. Check the NSWRL website for details. This match will be live streamed on Bunnies TV YouTube channel.

Junior Reps

Round 9 was the final game for all our junior rep teams. Both boys teams had wins, the SG Ball side dismantled the Raiders at Redfern and the Harold Matts were too good for the Raiders in Queanbeyan.

On the field with the Rabbitohs today.

The girls teams both suffered defeats to end their seasons. Good luck to all our young stars for the rest of the year and beyond.
