Foundation Clubs
The South Sydney District Rugby League Football Club was established on the 17th of January 1908 at Redfern Town Hall, and then played their first NSWRL match against North Sydney at Birchgrove Oval on the 20th of April of that year.
The first full season of rugby league in Australia was also played in 1908. Significantly the first clubs to take the field were:
- Glebe
- Newtown
- Western Suburbs
- South Sydney
- North Sydney
- Balmain
- Eastern Suburbs
- Newcastle
- Cumberland
South Sydney subsequently defeated Eastern Suburbs 14-12 in in the 1908 final. South Sydney would later be named ‘The Pride Of The League’. Souths 21 premierships are without a doubt the reason the club is regarded as the greatest rugby league club in Australian history.
Rugby league then quickly spread north with the establishment of the Queensland Rugby Association. Club football then started in Queensland in 1909.
Botany Rams Up Against Bondi United

The Botany Rams has been operating for over 75 years under the names of Botany United and Botany RSL, before becoming Botany Juniors (Rams). Henry Morris was President of Botany before being appointed President of Souths Juniors.
The Bondi United Rugby League Football Club also have a rich history and were formed in 1946.
