Rabbitohs Stars Are Set To Shine

The South Sydney Rabbitohs stars are set to shine in 2023 after the Harold Mathews, SG Ball, Harvey Norman Womens and Tarsha Gale pathways teams played the Cronulla Sharks in trial matches on Friday the 16th of December at Cronulla High.

Harold Mats coach Luke Deller is confident of a strong showing in 2023 coming off a 2 win 2 draw season from 8 games in 2022. On Friday his team scored a solid 6 tries to 2 win over last years grand finalist Sharks. The Rabbitohs Harold Mathews team will be looking to play finals footy for the 1st time since 2019 when the team had players like Joseph Suaali’i and Davvy Moale.

SG Ball coach John Sutton was without 5 of his big name players Tyrone Munro, Thomas Fletcher, Jye Gray, Liam Le Blanc and Haizyn Mellars for last Fridays trial against the Sharks but still managed to come away with a 5 tries to 3 win.

Coach Suttos 5 young stars are all training with the 1st grade squad so when they return to the SG Ball squad it will obviously be a huge boost for his team leading into the season.

The Tarsha Gale squad (u19 womens) had a strong win after a big recruitment drive in the offseason. Coach Dale Jackson will undoubtedly be looking for a big 2023 from the team.

The Harvey Norman Womens team had an encouraging draw against an undeniably strong Sharks team boasting NRLW players.

Joe O

Rabbitohs Head of Elite Pathways and Player Development, Joe O’Callaghan told ourfootyteam.com that he’s excited about the new crops of players coming through the ranks, as well as the calibre of coaches leading them.

“I’m really thrilled to be able to announce these squads for the 2023 season which will combine a number of players that have graduated from the younger age groups”…

“Some returning players for their second season in that particular age group, and some new recruits from Souths Juniors teams and others to complement the crew we have from the local district,” Mr O’Callaghan said.

“They will be led by some quality coaches in 2023, with Luke (Deller) and John (Sutton) returning to mentor their squads from last year, and we’ll be introducing Dale into our female pathway.

Pathways star Tyrone Munro has been elevated to the 1st grade development squad.

“Player development and pathways is an area the Club has invested in heavily in recent years, and in combination with Souths Juniors, we’re confident these squads can improve on their results from last year.

“More importantly, we can continue to produce players that reach the NRL level and higher honours, such as Cameron Murray and Campbell Graham, Alex Johnston and Dean Hawkins, Daniel Suluka Fifita and Davvy Moale, Keaon Koloamatangi and Peter Mamouzelos.

“It is always a source of pride, for both the Rabbitohs and the Juniors, to see players work their way up through the grades to play at the highest levels.

“All of the young men and women in these squads will firstly be given the best chance to fulfil their potential and show off their wares in a Rabbitohs jersey.”

Carter Beevers

Watch out for this young bloke from England to push for a Rabbitohs pathways spot when he arrives Down Under next year.

Adam Matteson told Bunnies TV – “Matraville Tigers recruitment team is pleased to announce that the club is supporting a young player from the UK following his dream of playing in the NRL. Carter Beevers is an 18 year old highly skilled player in the academy system in the UK. We have secured accommodation, a job and a pathway for him to chase his dream. So a big thank you to club Secretary Adam Wilkes, club President Todd Hinds and club sponsor Orana Services for their efforts to make this happen. We look forward to welcoming Carter to Australia soon in January 2023.”

On his Facebook page Carter Beevers said – “Not normally the one to post things on Facebook but I’ve been given the opportunity to finally take my Rugby career to the next step and move to Australia at the start of Jan, in Sydney and play for a team there.

“It’s come as a bit of a shock and happened very soon.

“Can’t thank everyone enough who’s helped me on my journey so far starting from Bramley/Stan to Wakefield Trinity, and this is a dream come true.”
