Official Statement
South Sydney Rabbitohs will farewell veteran hooker Damien Cook at the end of the 2024 season as the club looks to celebrate his career in the red and green in style over the back end of the year.
Cook, 33, has played 206 NRL games so far in his career. This includes 197 NRL games for the Rabbitohs to date. Cook played in the 2021 NRL Grand Final for South Sydney. He has previously represented the Australian Kangaroos and New South Wales Blues throughout his 12-year NRL career.
Rabbitohs Head of Football, Mark Ellison, says the Rabbitohs will aim to farewell Cook in the best way possible in season 2024.
“‘Cookie’ has been one of our top performers for a long time and he has worked extremely hard to grow into an international-class player at our club,” Mr Ellison said.
“He was contracted for one more year at Souths but he has the opportunity to extend his career at another club, and we thought it was the right thing to do to allow him to take up that offer.
“We will all be working hard to send Cookie out on the right note at the Bunnies this year. I’m sure our Members and everyone connected to our club will get right behind him and his teammates as we work towards a positive end to the year over the next few months.
“Cookie, his wife Courtney and his children Willow and Jagger will always be Rabbitohs. We look forward to continuing our work with him for the rest of this season.”
We wish you all the best Cookie, you will certainly be missed.
