From Vegas To Bris Vegas

By Josh Kemp for Bunnies TV.

Now that Vegas is over it was time to move on and head to Brisbane. This 1.5 hour flight from Sydney to Brisbane doesn’t seem all that bad after travelling to the other side of the world.

As usual my partner in crime Michael made the trip up with me.

We head to Suncorp via a stop off at the Caxton. Somewhat of a tradition when playing up there. Walking to our seats we are reminded why this is the best Stadium to watch League from.

Kick off and our first game on Australian soil was underway.

1st Game In Oz

An early penalty gave us good field position. Unfortunately an early error took the pressure off. It was a sign of things to come.

Both teams were looking flat. Quite a few errors. Could this be the effect from the Vegas game?

Eventually errors and discipline put us under too much pressure and the Broncos were the first to score. A few more errors and lazy defence in the middle saw Reece Walsh take advantage and extend the lead to 10-0.

Cook In The Bin

A penalty for a professional foul saw Damien Cook sent to the bin. An easy kick from in front of the post now made it 12-0 with being down to 12 men for 10 minutes. Despite being down a player the boys were able to hold the Broncos out.

Broncos errors were keeping us in the game as we head to the sheds down by 12. The good thing was we didn’t concede a try in the last few minutes of the half which is something we have been guilty of.

2nd Half Start

We couldn’t start the second half any better. Who would have thought our 2 tries would come from Siliva Havili and Davvy Moale. All of a sudden we found ourselves right in the game. There seemed to be so much more energy about the way we played.

Davvy crossed for his first NRL try.

100 tries for Latrell Mitchell and 1st try for Davvy Moale.

Sadly that didn’t last long. An error from our captain in the set after the Davvy try saw us under pressure. We were able to defend though.

A great defensive set saw the Broncos forced to kick in their own half. Only for Tom Burgess to charge the ball down and give them another set. The Broncos took advantage of this and all momentum was gone.

Too Many Errors

Some terrible errors were to follow. Lachlan Ilias had a few moments to forget. Losing the scrum against the feed to kicking the ball into his own player and dropping a pass in great attacking position. Pressure is already building on Lachie. We were also penalised twice for blocking.

Our view at Suncorp Stadium.

Latrell was caught out by not getting to the ball on the full only for the bounce of the ball to be perfect for Reece Walsh to cross for a try and that was game.

Another try to the Broncos followed by a late try to Latrell.

Even though we conceded 28 points I felt as though defensively we were better than the previous week. Well more our goal line defence. I also feel that the Broncos were well off as well. Who knows what the score would have been if they were on?

The previous game we had a completion rate of 80%. This week just over 50%. That simply isn’t good enough at this level.

Extended match highlights.

Wighton Boost

After the way we finished last season there are certainly many concerns. Injuries and suspensions in our backline hasn’t helped. Wighton making his debut next week will be a huge boost.

There are many questions right now. How do we turn it around? Is it time to give Lachlan Ilias some time in NSW Cup? The form of a few of our bigger name players? There is now pressure on the coach as well. Is he the man to turn it all around?

Only Round 2

The reality is it is still only round 2. Plenty of time to turn it around. Although with every loss comes more pressure.

It doesn’t get any easier next week where we face our biggest rivals the Roosters. What better way to turn our season around than getting one over them.
