Captain Ben Hissink HMAS Supply

“Hi Ben pleased to meet you and thank you for sending us those images on board the HMAS Supply last year .” (see below) I said at Redfern Oval in March 2021.

“No problems glad you liked them” said Ben

“What’s your role on the vessel” I then asked

“Captain” said Ben

“Of the ship?” I exclaimed rather stupidly

“Yes” said Ben reassuringly.

This is how I met Ben Hissink, the captain of the HMAS Supply, a new Royal Australian Navy vessel commissioned in April 2021. Captain Hissink then invited Bunnies TV on a tour of the HMAS Supply and of course we jumped at the chance!

Only minutes after meeting Ben it undoubtedly became clear why he is the man in charge. He is smart, confident and makes plenty of sense when he speaks.

Ben and his crew have formed a partnership with the Rabbitohs and thus bring their motto ‘Strengthen The Shield’ with them.

This undeniably powerful message is the cornerstone of a group of men and women who this nation can be proud of. They represent our country with distinction and courage. I certainly have no doubt they will be an enormous asset to the South Sydney club.

The Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment (AOR) is a class of double-hulled ship built by Spanish shipbuilder, Navantia. The Australian ships are based on the Spanish Navy’s Cantabria Class AORs. AORs carry fuel, dry cargo, water, food, ammunition, equipment and spare parts to provide operational support for deployed naval or combat forces operating far from port for longer periods.

In addition to replenishment, the vessels provide logistics support for the armed forces, combat against environmental pollution at sea, and support humanitarian and disaster relief operations.
