Bunnies Today: Friday 30 October 2026

Welcome to Bunnies Today for Friday 30 October 2026.
Adam Elliott’s retirement is our biggest South Sydney story today. The experienced forward has called time on his 180-game NRL career after a serious ankle injury restricted him to just seven appearances for the Rabbitohs.
In this edition of Bunnies Today, we also look at South Sydney’s 2027 junior representative squads, Liam Le Blanc’s move to Penrith and the Rabbitohs preparing for another weekend of Rugby League World Cup action.
Here’s your Bunnies Today roundup for Friday 30 October.
Bunnies Today: Adam Elliott Announces Retirement
South Sydney forward Adam Elliott has announced his retirement from rugby league after a serious ankle injury brought his 11-season NRL career to an end.
The 32-year-old played 180 first-grade games across four clubs. He made his NRL debut with Canterbury in 2016 before moving to Canberra, Newcastle and finally South Sydney in 2026.
Unfortunately, Elliott managed just seven games in his only season at South Sydney. He underwent extensive ankle surgery but was unable to recover sufficiently to continue his NRL career.
Elliott finishes his career with 101 games for Canterbury, 24 for Canberra, 48 for Newcastle and seven for the Rabbitohs.
Elliott’s Contribution Beyond Rugby League
A proud Wiradjuri man raised on Yuin country, Elliott also represented the Indigenous All Stars in 2019 and 2024 and Country Origin in 2017.
His contribution extended well beyond the football field, with years of involvement in community organisations and charitable initiatives, including Souths Cares.

In announcing his retirement, Elliott thanked the Rabbitohs for making him feel welcome during his final season.
“To the Rabbitohs’ staff, players, Members and fans, thank you so much for the way you welcomed me and have made me feel like I’ve been here forever. It’s an incredible club and I’m grateful my journey has finished here.”
Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly paid tribute to Elliott’s contribution on and off the field, acknowledging the disappointment of his career ending through injury.
Elliott also expressed his desire to remain involved with South Sydney in an off-field capacity.
His wife, Australian representative Millie Elliott, will also retire from playing following the completion of the Women’s Rugby League World Cup.
An interesting piece of Rabbitohs history: Exactly seven years ago today, on 30 October 2019, South Sydney great Sam Burgess also announced his retirement from rugby league. Two respected forwards, both forced to finish their careers through injury, announcing their departures on the same date.

We wish Adam, Millie and their family all the best for the future.
Bunnies Today: 2027 Rabbitohs Junior Squads
South Sydney have announced their summer training squads for the 2027 junior representative competitions, with preparations underway for another important season in the club’s development pathways.
The four squads cover the SG Ball Cup, Harold Matthews Cup, Tarsha Gale Cup and Lisa Fiaola Cup.
Both the SG Ball and Harold Matthews teams reached the preliminary finals in 2025 and 2026. South Sydney will now look to build on those performances next season.
The girls’ pathways programs will also continue their development as South Sydney prepares for the 2027 competitions.
These are summer training squads, with final competition selections still to be determined.
Bunnies TV will be following the progress of the junior Rabbitohs throughout the summer and into the new season.
We’ve also begun our South Sydney Spotlight collaboration with Blake Swann from South Sydney Central, introducing supporters to some of the promising players coming through the club’s pathways.
Our first two profiles have featured young gun forwards Urijah Brown and Antonio Azzi, with more to come.

Liam Le Blanc Signs With Penrith Panthers
Former Rabbitohs forward Liam Le Blanc has secured a new opportunity with Penrith, signing a one-year contract to join the Panthers’ Top 30 squad for 2027.

Le Blanc made his NRL debut for South Sydney in 2024 and went on to play 27 first-grade games for the Rabbitohs.
Penrith confirmed the signing on Thursday. The Panthers praised his defensive work and potential as a middle forward.
We wish Liam all the best as he continues his NRL career.

Rabbitohs Representatives Prepare for World Cup Action
The Rugby League World Cup continues this weekend, with several South Sydney players involved in the international tournament.
Australia face the Cook Islands in Townsville on Saturday night, with Rabbitohs captain Cameron Murray and Keaon Koloamatangi named on the interchange bench.

Latrell Mitchell and David Fifita are also part of the Aussie squad.
Former Rabbitohs forward Davvy Moale has been named in the Cook Islands starting side.
Elsewhere, France’s Latrell Siegwalt has been ruled out of his side’s final pool match against Lebanon after suffering a shoulder injury against England.
The injury is a disappointing finish to Siegwalt’s World Cup campaign following his breakthrough NRL season with South Sydney.
England v Papua New Guinea Men’s and England v Samoa Women’s are also in action tonight at WIN Stadium in Wollongong, while New Zealand and Fiji Men’s meet in another important pool match on Saturday.

The final round of group matches will determine which nations progress to the knockout stages.
Rabbitohs Birthday: Mitch Brennan
Today we acknowledge former South Sydney first-grade player Mitch Brennan, born on 30 October 1954.

Brennan, Rabbitohs player #674, made 41 first-grade appearances for South Sydney during the 1981 and 1982 seasons.
He also captained the Rabbitohs to victory over Cronulla in the 1981 Tooth Cup final.
