The Wonderful Women In League
It’s round 22 and this year, for the first time ever Women in League Round will occur during both the NRL and NRLW seasons.
The Rabbitohs don’t have an NRLW team but the pathways have been put in place to make that happen. Souths fans like me are hoping to see a Rabbitohs Women’s team in first grade sooner rather than later.

We do have a team in the Womens Premiership. This can be compared to the NSW Cup for the men, similar to the old reserve grade. The Bunnies then have a Tarsha Gale under 19s team and this year a Lisa Fiaola under 17s team was formed.
The newly opened Rabbitohs Centre has facilities for women in anticipation of a team working full time there alongside the men.

Womens rugby league has come a long way in the last few years and the rise to public prominence is set to continue.
Maggie M Medal
The 2023 Rabbitohs Women in League jersey features Maggie Moloney. Over 100 years ago Maggie once scored 4 tries in a game as a 15 year old teenager. In the second half the crowd began chanting ‘Maggie Maggie’.

Maggie grew up in Redfern and loved the Rabbitohs. Her nickname among teammates was South Moloney. There’s a massive Maggie mural in James Street, Redfern just 50 metres from the house she once lived in.
Maggies’ brother Bryan was Rabbitohs first grade player number #122. He played 2 first grade games on the wing alongside club greats Alf ‘Smacker’ Blair and Vic Lawrence. Not surprisingly he scored 2 tries. The Moloney siblings could certainly play footy.
There have been calls to name the NRLW best player medal to the Maggie M.
Celebrate The Women If Your life
We have some great young players in our pathways system like Kate Fallon who has just represented the u19s NSW Blues team.
Women in League round represents all the women and girls that either play, volunteer, coach, manage or support the game.
Some of my favourites are Michelle and Noela Cini who rarely miss a home game in the Burrow. Brigitte and Samantha Weiss are Souths super fans. Donna Smith, the mother of young Rabbitoh Bailey does a super job managing our pathways program. Denise Polinelli is a passionate South Sydney supporter.

Reporters like Emma Lawrence and Danika Mason unquestionably deserve a mention. The Rabbitohs are lucky to have so many hard working staff members like Talia, Karen, Jess, Brontee, Claudia, Tyler, Shannon, Lauren, Michaella and Markella to name just a few.
Bunnies TV Channel members Karina Haase and Bec Eakin are wonderful ladies. Donna SSTID supports the club up north in Queensland.

My neice Emma Mavin also lives in Queensland and has been creating content for Bunnies TV. Samantha is my beautiful wife of 29 years. My daughters Jasmin and Demi make me proud every day. I still miss my mum Viv who was always taking me to footy and never missed a game I played.
Celebrate and love the women in your life, they are the best!

Great stuff Mavo. We all miss Mrs Mavin.
She was a second Mum to all of us Botany misfits and especially to me, you know, not being a real Botany boy 🤣🤣. Certainly fed me better than my other Mum. Lol.
Thanks for the comment sport, great memories of the old days.
