Rabbitohs v Bears – Grand Final Preview
On Sunday the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on the North Sydney Bears in the NSW Cup Grand Final.
This competition also known as reserve grade began in 1908 and has been won multiple times by both teams. Souths have taken 20 titles and Norths have won 8. In 115 years they have met once in the decider with the Rabbitohs defeating the Bears 25-13 in 1926.
In first grade the Rabbitohs and Bears never met in a Grand Final.
The 2023 Season
The Bears finished on top of the NSW Cup ladder in 2023 on 36 points from 16 wins. The Rabbitohs were second on 34 points from 15 wins.
Souths began the season with 3 losses but really hit a purple patch of form at the business end of the season. They remain undefeated since July with 8 wins in a row.
The teams met 3 times this year with Souths winning 2 to the Bears 1. The Bears won the first meeting in round 7 then the Bunnies won the round 16 clash. Souths qualified for the Grand Final when they defeated the Bears in finals week 2.
The Team
Blake Taaffe returns from a head knock to play fullback for the Rabbitohs. North Sydney have four new faces in the side – Fetalaiga Pauga, Fletcher Baker, Kieran Hayman and Terrell May.
