My Favourite Rabbitohs

Over the years of supporting the Rabbitohs we have that one player who you love wearing the jersey that little bit more than other players. That one player who sticks out more than the others.

Latrell Mitchell.

In our squad now there are plenty to pick from for so many different reasons. The likes of Cam Murray, Cody Walker, Latrell Mitchell and Damien Cook.

In Years Gone By

In years gone by there was the likes of Sam Burgess, Greg Inglis and who could forget John Sutton.

Then there are the cult heroes. Recently there was no bigger cult hero than Mark “the Goat” Nicholls. Even Bunnies TVs own Steve Mavin was a bit of a cult hero with his swan dives back in the late 80’s.

I have had a few favourite players. As someone whose earliest memories of supporting Souths were the early 80’s I wasn’t lucky enough to get to witness the golden era with the likes of McCarthy, Sattler and Coote.

Stars Of Today

Who will be taking that title now? Could it be Shaq Mitchell? Or Maybe Isaac Thompson? Or will there be someone else?

ZIGGY NISZCZOT

A chat with Ziggy.

Ziggy was my first favourite player. Who didn’t love Ziggy? I still remember meeting him as a kid. That feeling being a kid meeting your hero.

Walking halfway down Chalmers Street with him, talking his ear off. I was just in awe.

NEIL BAKER

I was so excited when Souths signed him from the Bulldogs. Was a very good goal kicker. Was even better at kicking field goals.

He kicked something like 20 in one season. I remember being a 10 year old boy taking the footy up to Guilfoyle Park at Regents Park trying to kick field goals just like him.

PHIL BLAKE

Phil Blake on Bunnies TV.

The king of the chip and chase. How many kids around that time were trying to be just like him? I know I was.

LUKE STUART

One of those players who would do all the tough work and wouldn’t stop. Wasn’t the stand out player, but he would never let his teammates down.

JOHN SUTTON

John Sutton at the Heffron Centre.

The most capped Rabbitoh of all time. You will never get a more loyal player. So many chances to leave when things weren’t great.

It was fitting that he was the player who got to lift the trophy back in 2014. No more worthy player than him.

CAMERON MURRAY

Cameron Murray – Destined For Greatness.

It tells you something about a player when even opposition fans don’t have a bad word to say about you. No doubt there are many out there that have a man crush on Cam. I think I can put my hand up for that one.

A player that leaves nothing out on the field.

Captain Cameron Murray.
