All Effort No Luck

By Josh Kemp for Bunnies TV.

There were plenty of rumours flying around in the lead up to the game against the Sharks. Could this be the final 80 minutes with JD as our coach?

If this game were to decide his fate he certainly wasn’t getting much luck. Losing both Tatola and Munro early on top of having both Host and Jye Gray sent to have a HIA.

Both Host and Gray passed and were able to return to the game. Although right on halftime Cam Murray was hit in a high tackle and wasn’t to return.

Down To One Man

Down on the scoreboard and down to just one man on the bench. It looked grim for JD and the team.

An early try in the second half to the player who should have been in the bin for his shot on Murray saw the game starting to slip.

To their credit the boys dug deep. Showed some fight. Players who don’t usually play big minutes were forced to.

A try each kept the lead to 16. Time was going to be a factor.

Late Tries

It didn’t take long for us to get within 10 with a try to Tom Burgess off great lead up by Havili. Similar to the try he laid on for Davvy against the Broncos.

A later try to Isaiah Tass saw the deficit cut to just 6 points. How were we still in this game? We had no right to be in this position.

There was all of a sudden a buzz around the ground. It was game on.

Sadly it wasn’t to be one of those famous comebacks. A late try to the Sharks made sure of that.

The Effort Was There

The effort was there, but it wasn’t enough. We head home without the 2 competition points.

Consecutive weeks we find ourselves on the bottom of the ladder. A place that after 11 rounds last year we were the furthest from.

To top it off serious injuries to both Junior Tatola and Tyrone Munro meant that our long casualty ward was only going to get larger.

Cameron Murray and Tyrone Munro were ruled out of the game.

Thankfully with the bye Cam Murray won’t be missing a game.

Positives

Whilst it’s never good to get a loss, the debut of Jye Gray was one to be excited about. All eyes were definitely on him this week. The start of a long career for the Rabbitohs.

Game highlights.

Tom Burgess really led the way and was one of our best. Not far behind him I thought was Jacob Host. A player that has struggled with injuries and form the previous 2 seasons.

The kicking games of both Dean Hawkins and Cody Walker was the best I have seen this year. Especially from Dean. He was able to force 4 drop outs.

The kick chase at times really let down some of those great kicks. No doubt fatigue was setting in.

Where To?

Where to from now? The bottom of the ladder after 6 rounds. Who could have seen this?

We now have a much needed bye before we head down to Melbourne. A place where we haven’t won before. Depleted and out of form.

All Effort No Luck

To make matter worse the week after it is the Panthers. We are looking at being 1-7 after 9 rounds.

The excitement of the start of the season has now well and truly gone.

It seems for now JD gets a stay of execution. If things don’t turn around soon it’s hard to see any scenario other than him being shown the door.

All Effort No Luck.
