Never Give Up
By Josh Kemp for Bunnies TV.
It’s not often I walk out of the ground not feeling disappointed after a loss. I usually walk to the car kicking stones. Yet this was a rare occasion that I left feeling satisfied.
Sure there were plenty of errors. Yes the Storm were well below their best. At the same time I don’t think there were many of us that thought we would go close to beating the Storm.
Whilst it never looked like we were going to win we never gave up in the second half. Now that the chance of playing finals footy has gone, it was good to see we didn’t throw in the towel.

Ominous After Halftime
The try just after halftime looked ominous. It was 26-4 and the effort in chasing didn’t look to be there. This was looking like another 50 points put on us by the the Storm.
That was their only try of the second half. From that point we outscored them 12-2 with their only 2 points coming from a penalty goal to close the match.
Some of the efforts in the first half could have been questioned. A couple of the Storm tries were through soft defence. A couple of times our lazy defence was exposed.
Flying Fletcher
There was a bright spot in the first half though with the long range intercept try to Fletcher Myers. Crossing for his first try in the NRL. Didn’t he show a clean pair of heels?
The second half was a totally different story. The effort areas had picked up. The defence was much better. Storm errors made it easier for us, but as they say you can only play what is in front of you.
Our own errors were costing us as well. Although many of them not through trying to force our hand.
Even when the Storm were attacking our line we weren’t going to give up any soft tries.
Storm Nerves
Two tries at the back end of the game saw us go within 10 points of the Storm. There were still 10 minutes to go and no doubt they were starting to feel a little nervous.
All of a sudden we were starting to win the ruck. The Storm were on the back foot. Unfortunately we couldn’t take advantage of that momentum. A Jack Wighton knock on ensured that there wasn’t going to be an exciting finish to the game.
The game finished with a penalty goal to the Storm to give them the 12 point victory. It didn’t end up being the 40-50 point flogging we were expecting early in the second half.
Cam Stood Out
You just have to listen to Cam Murray in the press conference talk about putting that jersey on and playing for the jersey to know where this team is right now despite our injury crisis. He was the stand out for us and led the team with his actions.
Funnily the last 2 weeks I have walked out of the ground feeling that I would be more disappointed being the opposition fan despite winning.
Whilst we would love to win every week, sometimes we have to accept the reality of our current situation. Our back 5 the other night would be our NSW Cup back 5 had we been at full strength.
I accept that injuries wasn’t the reason for our missing the finals. I do feel as though they have disrupted our recent run.
The season is fast coming to an end for us. Only 4 more games to go. Next week is against the Tigers at Campbelltown. Last time we played a competition game there was before the merger against the Magpies back in 1999.
Never Give Up.
